The Maestro Champagne Opening System
May 19th, 2009 by Simon Salt
The Maestro opening system, produced by Alcan Packaging Capsules, looks like a regular champagne top except for the large lever on the side. Champagne house Duval-Leroy is the first to use this new closure, putting it on their cuvee Clos des Bouveries Vintage 2004. You simply lift up the lever to open the bottle.
While the closure does make a soft popping noise, it may not be as dramatic but it is certainly faster. The process is more like opening a can of soda than opening a wine bottle. The main selling point is that it eliminates cork taint
