Sophie Matisse Chess Set
Sophie Matisse, granddaughter to well-known painter Henri Matisse, has painted five unique chess sets for an exhibition called “The Art of the Game” for the Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair. Each of the chess sets is individually numbered and has a distinguishing design.
The Sophie Matisse-designed chess sets will sell for $16,000 at the three-day fair that will take place at the deluxe Grand Del Mar in San Diego September 2 to 4, 2009. San Diego’s first Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair will include national and international galleries exhibiting over 500 works from around the world.
