Moet Chandon - Oscar’s Favorite
February 17th, 2009 by Simon Salt
Moet Chandon has been designated as the official Champagne of the 2009 Academy Awards ceremony. The French vintage will be served at the ceremony itself, as well as its flagship White Star, Grand Vintage, Nectar Imperial Rosé Impérial. The French champagnes will also be served at Red Carpet Cocktail Party, the Governor’s Ball, the Foreign Langauge Film Awards Cocktail Party and the New York Oscar Viewing Party.
The choice of Moet Chandon by the Academy is interesting considering the California based industry shares a home with local wines that have recently come under fire by French vintners who assert that the name ‘Champagne’ is uniquely French and refers to a variety grape that can only be grown in a specific region of France, and cannot properly be expanded to include sparkling wines that are grown and bottled in the United States.
