Luxury Timepiece

David Orgell is a Beverly Hills boutique that caters to stars like Sylvester Stallone and Rod Stewart, and offers up some of the most luxe and least practical items imaginable. One of the most recent is a $25,000 gold and crystal hourglass. Why so pricey? This hourglass is not filled with the sands of time, but rather with DeBeers diamonds—2,000 of them to be exact–which, come to think of it is kind of like the sands of time squared.
If you have to watch the clock, shouldn’t it at least sparkle and shine and remind you every moment of how incredibly wealthy you are? Diamonds , which used to be only seen in jewelry, especially women’s jewelry, are lately turning up in all kinds of surprising high end collectibles and even practical applications. Smaller stones have lately been worked into everything from shoes (witness the last few Oscar ceremonies for proof of that), clothing, purses, and now, hourglass gifts.
