Cartier Love Bracelet
January 6th, 2009 by Simon Salt
The Cartier Love Bracelet, popularized in the 1970s, has never lost its allure. Crafted by the famous French House of Cartier jewelers, the bracelet was originally inspired by medieval chastity belts. The 18 carat gold two-tone bracelet springs open and is then closed and fastened to the wearer’s wrist by the giver using a tiny screwdriver– an act meant to signify the epitome of loving commitment. If you go to Cartier.com and search for the Love Bracelet, you will find it along with many more gorgeous jewelry pieces available from Cartier, including an entire jeweled bestiary of 18 carat gold and platinum animals. What you won’t find at the Cartier website is the price.
The love bracelet, purchased new from a licensed Cartier retailer, will set you back approximately $2700, but you can find it used or new and resold on Ebay for slightly less. (Apparently promises of undying love do sometimes fade and couples who find themselves it this situation do sometimes unlock the pledge and resell the item.) Most girls are going to want a new one—so if you find a bargain, keep it to yourself!
