2009 Mercedes-Benz E320 BlueTEC sedan

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz E320 BlueTEC sedan is being touted as the cleanest diesel engine on the road and has already won a number of ‘green living’ technology awards. The system includes what Mercedes calls AdBlue, a harmless solution that is injected into the exhaust. The solution is stored in a seven- or eight-gallon tank at the rear of the vehicle, where the spare tire normally would be. A tank lasts about 10,000 miles and is refilled during regular maintenance. Refills are about $150.
This system results in 88 percent of nitrogen oxide emissions being converted to harmless nitrogen gas and water. Mercedes is focusing on the green technology partly to help buyers world wide reduce their carbon footprints, but also, on a more subtle note, Mercedes-Benz knows that eco-chic is the next big luxury wave and they want to make sure the Mercedes brand stays firmly affixed to the crest of it. The 2009 Mercedes-Benz E320 BlueTEC is available in 45 states and is in the process of being approved for California. MSRP on a 2009 Mercedes-Benz E320 Blue TEC runs between $53,300 and $88,500.
